The Nigeria Police Force has arrested the embattled Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, over allegations linked to the operations of the agency, which the Federal Government has described as non-existent.
Adeyemi is expected to be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on multiple charges, including alleged forgery, impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, and the use of forged government documents. Investigators allege that he fraudulently presented himself as the head of the PFIPC using forged presidential appointment letters and official documents.
The controversy surrounding the PFIPC intensified after the Presidency disowned the agency, despite reports that it received a ₦1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act and operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate how the agency emerged and identify those behind the alleged fraud.
The case has generated widespread public attention, with investigators also probing how the alleged fictitious agency secured office space, opened multiple bank accounts, and engaged with diplomatic missions before the alleged scheme was uncovered.
