GAYA, KANO STATE — The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, has commissioned a set of Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects in honour of retired Rear Admiral Aliyu Ahmad Gaya at Gaya Community in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.
The projects, commissioned on Saturday, 29 August 2026, were executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects Scheme of the Nigerian Navy and were inaugurated on behalf of the CNS by the Chief of Naval Assessment, Safety and Standards, Rear Admiral Pakiribo Solomon Anabraba.
The intervention comprises three solar-powered boreholes, an 11-metre-high water tank tower, a 52,000-litre water storage tank, a control room and a security guard room.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Naval Staff, represented by Rear Admiral Anabraba, said viable development projects had a positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries.

He urged the community to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance, stressing that the protection of public infrastructure was essential to sustaining the benefits of such interventions.
The facilitator of the project, Rear Admiral Aliyu Ahmed Gaya (Rtd.), said the intervention was aimed at providing solar-powered boreholes to selected communities within Gaya Local Government Area.
He described access to potable water as fundamental to human activities and essential to improving the health and well-being of communities.
Also speaking through the Dangaladiman Gaya, Alhaji Abdullahi Nayaya Gaya, the Emir of Gaya, Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, commended the retired naval officer for initiating the project and contributing to the development of his community.
The ceremony was attended by senior military and paramilitary commanders, including the Commandant, Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa, Kano State, Commodore Ahmad Abubakar Madawaki; as well as religious and traditional leaders, community leaders, family members of the project facilitator and other well-wishers.
