Nigerian entertainer Bankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, has recounted the emotional toll of losing the 2023 general election, saying the experience played a significant role in his journey into pastoral ministry.
Banky W, who contested the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, disclosed this while celebrating one year since he became a pastor.
The singer and actor said the election result was deeply disappointing and forced him to reconsider his priorities and seek divine guidance about his future.
Following the loss, he said he was uncertain about which direction to pursue, questioning whether his calling lay in politics, entertainment, entrepreneurship or ministry.
According to him, he turned to God with questions about the next phase of his life and what God wanted him to accomplish.
The entertainer explained that his perspective changed when he realised that his professional ambitions and spiritual responsibilities did not necessarily have to conflict.
He said he had initially approached the situation as though he needed to select one career path at the expense of the others.

However, he eventually concluded that he could continue his work in entertainment and business while also serving in the church.
Banky W said God was not trying to restrict him to a single role but was broadening his responsibilities.
He explained that he remained committed to filmmaking, music and entrepreneurship while embracing his roles as a pastor and professor.
Reflecting on the anniversary, he described the election defeat as a painful experience that nevertheless helped him discover a different understanding of his purpose.
He also shared an encouraging message about disappointment, noting that what appears to be the end of a journey could instead signal the beginning of a new chapter.
The entertainer expressed appreciation for how his life had developed over the past year and celebrated the opportunity to serve in pastoral ministry.
He subsequently invited his followers to join him in marking the milestone.
