The Green Heroes Foundation has honoured the memory of the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft crash of 26 September 1992, with the erection of a Cenotaph in their honour at the National Cemetery, Abuja.
The C-130 Hercules, with registration NAF911, crashed shortly after take-off from Lagos on 26 September 1992 while on its way to Kaduna. The aircraft lost engine power during its initial climb and subsequently crashed in a swampy area near the airport. All those on board were killed in the tragedy.
The memorial initiative was led by the Founder of the Green Heroes Foundation, Air Commodore Abayomi Balogun (rtd)and the Chairman of the Foundation, Major General Shehu Yusuf (rtd) as part of efforts to preserve the memory and legacy of the military personnel who lost their lives in the crash.
