The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with Defence Headquarters (DHQ), has commenced a three-day Flood Disaster Response Simulation Exercise at Odo Apo Owu Area, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The exercise is aimed at strengthening preparedness and response mechanisms among stakeholders and mitigating the impact of flooding and associated hazards.
Representing the Director, Search and Rescue (D SAR), was the Deputy Director, Search and Rescue (DD SAR), Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, who participated in the simulation exercise.
The event was attended by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, as well as directors from NEMA Headquarters, Abuja.
Also in attendance were Permanent Secretaries from the Ogun State Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Education, Youth and Sports, the Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Prof. Aliu Oguntade, and other officials of the state government.
The three-day simulation provides a platform for NEMA, SEMA and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to assess existing response capabilities, identify gaps and proffer practical solutions towards reducing the effects of flooding and other related disasters.
The exercise also focuses on improving coordination among stakeholders and strengthening effective disaster management and flood-control measures.
