The Nigerian Government has reinstated the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, lifting his suspension and restoring civilian administrative leadership in the defence establishment.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), formally received Pheelangwah upon his resumption of duty on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at Ship House in Abuja.
The Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, confirmed the reinstatement in an official statement, saying it would restore administrative stability and strengthen governance within the ministry.

Pheelangwah said he resumed office with renewed commitment to national service, professionalism and the strategic objectives of the defence sector.
Musa expressed confidence in the working relationship between the political leadership and the civil service directorate, stressing the importance of institutional coordination in advancing national security priorities.
The resumption marks the restoration of administrative leadership at the ministry, with the management expected to focus on public service delivery and the implementation of defence policies.
