Vise President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu is very committed to prioritizing transport infrastructure to ease operations for Nigerian transporters.
He says the current administration is treating connectivity as an economic imperative and is actively working to bring down the cost of movement, because the President does not take the struggles of transport workers for granted.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the formal inauguration of the National Working Committee of the National Structure of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, the Vise President said that no group in the nation connects communities like transporters.
Ibrahim Hadejia, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, who represented the Vise President, said that apart from their operational duty, transport workers are unparalleled ambassadors of the nation.
Vise President Shettima said that the transport industry is the heart of economic boom and it is the key to whether a farmer gets to market, a manufacturer moves goods, a trader restocks, a student gets to school and an investor connects production to demand.
Every kilometer saved, every bottleneck removed, every port made more efficient and every safer journey completed, adds to national productivity. That’s why we can’t afford to take you for granted.
“This understanding also explains the commitment of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR to infrastructure that makes your operations easier. “The administration has viewed connectivity as an economic imperative, through highways, rail corridors, ports, clean mobility initiatives and logistics infrastructure.
The Vise President called transport workers credible witnesses to the administration’s struggles, while acknowledging their daily contributions in moving people and goods across the country.
“So, the fact that the men and women whose daily work keeps Nigeria going have organized themselves across all the regions and modes of transportation to give His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, another chance speaks volumes to your understanding of what has been achieved and the work that lies ahead,” he added.
VP Shettima said he had on June 15, 2026, welcomed the transport workers to the fold of patriots who’ve come together to promote the interests of the nation above misinformation, disinformation and economic sabotage.

He said he did so on the basis of his belief that Nigerian transporters could assist the nation’s various communities to understand the Renewed Hope Agenda and participate responsibly in the country’s democratic process.
But he implored the transport workers to make sure their activities are peaceful and their campaign issue-based. “No political objective is enhanced by disorder.
“I call on each of you to remember that political participation carries obligations for those who lead others. “Reject violence, threats, intimidation, misinformation and all forms of electoral malpractices,” he urged them, adding that their engagements should be peaceful and the message issue-based.
Mr Segun Obayendo, the National Coordinator of the Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, said the support of stakeholders in the nation’s transport and logistics sector was driven by the impactful reforms and investments of the Tinubu administration in the ecosystem.
Obayendo, who is also the President’s Technical Adviser on Transportation, Logistics and Innovation, said the inauguration of structures of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 was critical in building consensus among members for the purpose of the President’s re-election, assuring that they would work tirelessly for the success of the present administration.
Emeka Okafor, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of APC, lauded the group for their commitment and support for the re-election of President Tinubu, saying the administration’s performance in various sectors was a justification for his re-election.
He urged the group to take advantage of the platform and their network to mobilize support for the President and candidates of the party at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
