NIMASA DETAINS TWO VESSELS FOR CABOTAGE VIOLATIONS

By TalkJudith

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has confirmed the detention of two vessels, MT Holmes and MT Sabeak, for non-compliance with Nigeria’s Cabotage Act and other maritime regulations.

In a press release, the agency clarified that MT Fujairah Energy, JS Gratitude and MT Bora were not detained, contrary to its earlier statement, as the vessels were found to be compliant with applicable regulations. NIMASA apologised for the mix-up and regretted the inconvenience caused to the affected vessels and their owners.

The enforcement operation, codenamed Operation Sea Guardian, was conducted to strengthen regulatory compliance, verify cabotage obligations and assess compliance with applicable surcharges and levies.

The operation involved NIMASA enforcement personnel, the Nigerian Navy, the Maritime Guard Command and C4i intelligence personnel, with Deep Blue assets deployed to track, board and inspect vessels identified through intelligence and surveillance activities.

NIMASA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing maritime regulations, promoting compliance and safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests.
