Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has called on President Bola Tinubu to confer a national honour on the country’s security chiefs for their recent exploits in Oyo and Borno states.
The rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in the Orire area of Oyo State and the foiling of an attempted mass abduction of students in Monguno, Borno State, were cited by Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, as proof of improved operational effectiveness.
The lawmaker said that the achievements of the armed forces under the current military leadership are worthy of national recognition, especially at a time the country is still battling insurgency, banditry and other security threats.
“We celebrate the safe return of the Orire victims. It demonstrates what coordinated intelligence and military efforts can achieve.

“The successful resolution of the Orire abduction after 56 days of captivity and decisive intervention in Monguno, show the increasing effectiveness of our security apparatus under your leadership.
The GCON award for our Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff and other key military officers is well deserved as they have restored hope to families and protected the future of our children. “These accomplishments deserve national recognition,” Agbese said.
He said commending excellent service within the armed forces would not only help boost the morale of personnel but also help strengthen public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
“As a member of the opposition, I believe in giving credit where credit is due. “Awarding our security chiefs with the GCON will boost their morale and signal that excellence in protecting Nigerians transcends partisan lines,” he said.
Agbese also urged the Federal Government to continue to invest in military hardware, intelligence gathering and the welfare of security personnel to consolidate on the recent gains recorded in the fight against insecurity.
Mr President, let this be the start of closer collaboration. Nigerian parents and students deserve nothing short of total safety in their schools and communities.
“The heroes who delivered these results should be celebrated. “GCON for our security leadership is well-deserved recognition of their service and sacrifice.”
