Nigerian singer Mr 2Kay has recounted how he received only N2 million from the N10 million compensation paid by Eko Hotel and Suites following an armed robbery incident at the facility in 2017.
The singer, whose real name is Abiye Jumbo, made the revelation during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, saying the handling of the money contributed to his decision to leave his former record label.
According to Mr 2Kay, the hotel management paid him N10 million after he was attacked and robbed following a concert at the Lagos facility.
He alleged that his record label subsequently gave him just N2 million from the compensation, a development that left him dissatisfied.
The incident occurred on October 22, 2017, after his performance at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert at Eko Hotel and Suites.

Reports at the time stated that the singer was beaten, tied up and robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room by armed men posing as room service workers.
The Lagos State Police Command arrested four suspects in connection with the attack, including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok.
Burna Boy was declared wanted during the investigation but later surrendered to the police. He was arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in December 2017 on charges of conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery before being granted bail.
The suspects reportedly told investigators that they had been hired to attack Mr 2Kay. The allegations were addressed through the legal proceedings that followed.
Mr 2Kay eventually withdrew the case after Burna Boy apologised.
The two artistes appeared to have reconciled in August 2021 after a video showed them hanging out together at a Lagos nightclub.
During his latest interview, Mr 2Kay also revealed that he has transitioned into music executive work, describing the business as a lucrative venture.
His disclosure provides fresh insight into the professional and financial issues he said followed the 2017 incident.
The revelation has also renewed interest in the dispute between the singer and his former label, as well as the events that once placed him and Burna Boy at the centre of a major entertainment controversy.
