Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died at the age of [age not stated].
He died on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar while receiving treatment for a heart condition, according to Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi.
Hassan, an agricultural academic, largely kept a low public profile and became Tanzania’s first First Gentleman when his wife assumed office in 2021.

He married President Samia in 1978, before she entered national politics. They had four children — three sons and a daughter.
Their daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, is a politician and member of Zanzibar’s House of Representatives.
Kenyan President William Ruto and Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye have expressed condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.
