Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, 19 July 2026, at the school, which is currently being used by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.
According to the military, the terrorists gained access to the facility with the assistance of suspected collaborators in a bid to abduct students. However, security personnel swiftly engaged the attackers, while the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force reinforced the school, forcing the terrorists to flee without carrying out the planned abduction.

Although parts of the school infrastructure were damaged during the exchange of gunfire, troops successfully rescued and evacuated all 46 students to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical attention. The military confirmed that all rescued students are in stable condition and that no student was abducted.
The military, however, disclosed that some students were killed after being struck by sporadic gunfire from the fleeing terrorists during the firefight.
Operation HADIN KAI extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest suspected collaborators. Troops, alongside other security agencies, are also pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorist groups and ensuring the safety of schools and other critical infrastructure across the North-East.
