‘You can’t be gay, Christian at the same time’ – Actress Juliana Olayode

Actress Juliana Olayode has called on Christian leaders and believers to defend what she considers biblical truth amid growing public discussions about sexuality and religious beliefs.

The Nollywood star shared the message in an Instagram post, warning that the Church should not remain silent about teachings she believes contradict Scripture.

Olayode said the influence of such teachings extends beyond adults to teenagers and children, making it important for Christian institutions to address the issue.

She urged the Church to return to the Bible, teach its principles and avoid compromising its convictions to accommodate cultural expectations.

The actress also stated that, in her view, being gay or queer conflicts with the Christian faith as she understands it.

However, she sought to distinguish her religious convictions from hatred towards people who identify with different sexual orientations.

Olayode said she did not wish harm upon gay, homosexual or queer people and believed everyone deserved to be treated with love.

She explained that love, in her understanding of Christianity, does not necessarily require agreement with another person’s beliefs or lifestyle.

According to her, Christians should be willing to express their convictions while treating others with compassion and respect.

To explain her position, Olayode referred to Genesis 1:27, which describes humanity as created male and female in God’s image.

She also cited Matthew 19:4-6, passages she said support the biblical understanding of male and female and marriage.

The actress maintained that Christians should allow Scripture to guide their moral convictions rather than adjusting religious teachings to suit personal desires or changing cultural attitudes.

Her comments have renewed discussions about how churches address sexuality and the interpretation of biblical passages in contemporary society.

Olayode’s statement highlights the tension between traditional Christian interpretations and broader conversations about sexual identity and inclusion.

She concluded by insisting that God’s Word should remain the guiding authority for Christians.

The actress’s position has drawn attention to her views on religious commitment, personal conviction and the responsibility of the Church to teach what its members understand as biblical doctrine.
