The Air Component Operation Fansan Yamma, in continuation of sustained Intelligence-led Air Operations in support of Surface Forces, has conducted an Armed Reconnaissance (AR) Mission following credible intelligence on the sighting of Terrorist elements crossing the PANGU GARI River towards KWANGE in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. In response to the report, an A-29 Super Tucano aircraft was promptly scrambled to conduct aerial reconnaissance over the identified area and support ground troops in tracking the hostile elements.
Upon arrival in the area of operations, the aircrew established communication with troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) DEKALA, who reported that the situation was calm while providing information on the position of own troops tracking the suspected Terrorist elements. The aircrew was subsequently directed towards the last known position of the Terrorists. Upon arrival, ground troops reported that the Terrorist elements had taken cover beneath a tree after sighting the aircraft.
In coordination with the ground troops, the aircrew engaged the identified position where the Terrorist elements took cover with no further movements observed following the engagement. The aircrew continued to maintain aerial vigilance and coordination with the ground troops.

The operation underscores the importance of timely and credible intelligence, effective Air-Ground coordination and responsive Airpower in supporting Surface Forces to track and disrupt the movement of Terrorist elements. It also highlights the NAF’s ability to rapidly deploy air assets in response to emerging threats and provide critical aerial support to troops operating on the ground.
The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to sustaining Intelligence-led Air Operations in support of Operation Fansan Yamma and other Joint efforts aimed at degrading Terrorist activities, denying hostile elements freedom of action, protecting vulnerable communities and safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians across the Operational Theatre.
