The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, has disrupted the movement of suspected terrorists in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State following a successful intelligence-led armed reconnaissance mission.
The operation was conducted after credible intelligence indicated that terrorist elements had been sighted crossing the Pangu Gari River towards Kwange in the local government area.
In response, an A-29 Super Tucano aircraft was promptly deployed to conduct aerial reconnaissance and support ground troops tracking the suspected terrorists.
On arrival in the area of operation, the aircrew established communication with troops at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dekala, who reported that the situation was calm and provided information on the location of troops pursuing the suspected terrorists.
The aircrew was subsequently directed to the last known position of the terrorists. According to the NAF, ground troops reported that the suspects had taken cover beneath a tree after sighting the aircraft.

Working in coordination with the ground forces, the aircrew engaged the identified position where the terrorists had taken cover. No further movement was observed from the location following the engagement, while the aircraft maintained aerial surveillance and continued coordination with troops on the ground.
The operation highlights the importance of timely and credible intelligence, effective air-ground coordination and rapid deployment of air assets in supporting surface forces to track and disrupt terrorist activities.
The Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led air operations in support of Operation Fansan Yamma and other joint operations aimed at degrading terrorist activities, denying hostile elements freedom of action and protecting vulnerable communities across the operational theatre.
The NAF also maintained that its operations remain focused on safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians and supporting ongoing efforts to restore security and stability in affected areas.
