The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Joint Defence Doctrine Review Sub-Committee, led by Rear Admiral PC Nwatu (Rtd), on Monday, 13 July 2026, visited Headquarters Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos, as part of the ongoing review of the Armed Forces Joint Defence Doctrine.
The Sub-Committee was received by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, who welcomed the delegation and commended Defence Headquarters for the initiative. He noted that periodic reviews of military doctrine are essential to ensuring that the Armed Forces remain responsive to the nation’s dynamic security environment while enhancing jointness and interoperability.
Speaking during the visit, the Team Leader Rear Admiral PC Nwatu (Rtd) stated that the Sub-Committee was engaging operational commands to obtain valuable inputs that would ensure the revised doctrine adequately reflects contemporary operational realities, emerging threats, technological advancements and global best practices.
As part of the programme, the Command Operations Officer, Commodore B M Sule, delivered a presentation on the Western Naval Command’s inputs to the Joint Defence Doctrine review. The presentation highlighted the Command’s operational experiences, observations and recommendations aimed at strengthening joint planning and enhancing interoperability among the Services.
The visit featured interactive discussions between members of the Sub-Committee and officers of Headquarters Western Naval Command.
