The Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) has honoured the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for his contributions to strengthening military cooperation and promoting joint operations among the Armed Forces.
The award recognises Oluyede’s commitment to intelligence sharing, coordinated military operations, personnel welfare and enhanced collaboration among security agencies in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
Oluyede, who was represented by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, received the honour at the DECAN Conference and Awards 2026 held in Abuja on Monday, October 12.
Speaking at the event, the defence chief urged journalists covering military and security affairs to work closely with the Armed Forces in addressing the growing threat of misinformation and disinformation.
He particularly warned against the spread of artificial intelligence-generated fake content, noting that such material could mislead the public, undermine confidence in security institutions and pose risks to national security.
