The Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI) has reiterated its commitment to promoting risk management education, youth innovation and national development.
The institute stated this during its maiden University Risk Management Pitching Essay Competition held in Lagos as part of activities marking its 25th anniversary.
The competition, themed “Building a Resilient Nigeria Through Strategic Risk Management,” provided university students with a platform to identify critical challenges confronting the country and develop innovative and sustainable solutions using strategic risk management principles.
Chairman of the Institute’s Council, Kevin Ugwuoke, said the initiative was designed to strengthen risk awareness and strategic thinking in Nigeria’s educational system amid economic reforms, technological advancements and global uncertainties.
According to him, building a resilient Nigeria requires strong institutions, sound policies and a new generation of professionals capable of anticipating uncertainties, making informed decisions and turning risks into opportunities for sustainable development.

He said the competition was also aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice while preparing young people for emerging challenges.
Ugwuoke explained that finalists were assessed based on their understanding of risk management, depth of analysis, innovation, feasibility, presentation and supporting evidence during a live pitching session before industry professionals and other stakeholders.
Dominican University emerged overall winner, while Covenant University and Ajayi Crowther University finished first and second runners-up respectively.
The winners received cash prizes of ₦1.5 million, ₦1 million and ₦500,000 respectively, alongside plaques.
All participants will also receive certificates and automatic free membership of CRMI, granting them access to professional development opportunities.
The institute further disclosed that eligible teams could apply for the 2027 Spencer-RIMS Student Risk Management Challenge, where the top eight teams will advance to RISKWORLD in New Orleans, United States.
