Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has accepted his appointment as Secretary I of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
The appointment comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election following the commencement of the official campaign period.
The Ministry of Defence announced Musa’s acceptance in a statement dated August 24, 2026, signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister.
Musa described the appointment as a call to higher service and expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership.
Musa Promises Commitment to APC Campaign
Accepting the new assignment, the Defence Minister said he would carry out his responsibilities with diligence and focus as he works toward securing victory for the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
He expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects and called on party members and supporters across the country to remain united behind the Tinubu administration.
Musa also urged patriotic Nigerians to support the government as the country approaches another major election cycle.
Defence Minister Says Security Duties Will Continue
Despite his political appointment, Musa assured Nigerians that his constitutional responsibility to protect the country would remain his primary concern.
He said ongoing military operations, strategic reforms and collaboration among security agencies would continue without interruption.
“National security remains our highest imperative,” Musa said.
He added that the Ministry of Defence would continue working to protect Nigerians and advance the government’s vision of a safe and prosperous country.
The minister’s appointment comes as Nigeria continues to confront security challenges, including counterinsurgency operations in the North-East and attacks by bandit groups in parts of the North-West.
His assurance that his campaign responsibilities would not interfere with his defence duties comes amid potential concerns about the involvement of a serving defence minister in partisan political activities ahead of the 2027 election.
Musa said his commitment to Nigeria’s security mandate remained firm despite the additional political assignment.
The development adds another prominent figure to the APC’s campaign structure as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
