IG Disu Visits Niger, Vows to Rescue Abducted Worshipper

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation and ongoing operations following the recent attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.

Disu made the visit on Saturday, arriving at the Niger State Government House, where he was received by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Magaji.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, the IGP conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the Niger State Government, residents and families of the victims.

He assured the state that the safe recovery of the abducted persons and arrest of the perpetrators remain the primary focus of the ongoing operations.

Disu commended the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, for the command’s response and timely submission of situation reports following the incident.

He also praised the Niger State Government for its continued support for the police, particularly through the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers and welfare assistance for security personnel.

IGP Orders Intelligence-Led Operations

During his engagement with officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, Disu directed them to sustain intelligence-led and professionally coordinated operations while giving priority to the safety of victims and affected communities.

He assured the command of continued support from Force Headquarters to improve its logistics, mobility, intelligence, training and operational capacity.

The IGP also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies and deeper engagement with local communities.

He specifically stressed the importance of working with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders to improve intelligence gathering and enable quicker responses to security threats.

Deputy Governor Pledges Support

Deputy Governor Garba commended Disu for personally visiting the state to assess the security situation and strengthen the ongoing rescue efforts.

He reaffirmed the Niger State Government’s support for the police and other security agencies working to protect residents, restore peace and secure the release of the abducted worshippers.

As part of his visit, Disu also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr Umar Farouk Bahago.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation with traditional institutions in intelligence gathering, community engagement and efforts to restore peace across the state.

The Nigeria Police Force assured residents that efforts would continue to rescue the abducted persons, protect communities and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
