The family of the late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who died on June 27 at the Ebonyi residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding the release of her body for burial.
Mary’s father, Tanko Habila, accompanied by his wife, other family members and their legal representatives, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

Speaking through his lawyer after the submission, Mr Habila expressed disappointment that nearly two weeks after his daughter’s death, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her remains.
According to the family, they are not requesting an autopsy but simply want her body released for burial.
“As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried,” the lawyer said.
However, the Minister of Works has urged the police to withhold the release of the body pending an autopsy.
