Ojay Wright, son of veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bukky Wright, has recalled the moment he discovered that his mother was more popular than he had realised.
Ojay shared the experience during a recent mother-and-son session with Pulse Nigeria, recounting how a birthday celebration at Quilox opened his eyes to the extent of his mother’s popularity.
According to him, he had returned to Nigeria from the United States for a holiday and chose to celebrate his birthday at the Lagos nightclub. However, he was surprised by the reaction that greeted his mother’s expected arrival.
“I came back home from the US for holiday and I celebrated my birthday at Quilox. I didn’t know that Omotara was that big,” he said.

Ojay recalled that the club’s manager appeared to take charge of the situation, with the venue becoming unusually crowded as people waited to see his mother.
“The manager was like the bouncer that day, shut down the club, everybody was standing there and when I asked him what’s going on they said don’t worry, it’s your mom, your mom did this,” he recounted.
He said the excitement intensified as people realised Bukky Wright was expected to make an appearance, with some assuming she was coming specifically for his birthday.

“Then the next thing I noticed that everybody was just frolicking, they wanted to see you because they thought you were coming for my birthday. You came for like thirty minutes,” he said.
The experience, Ojay explained, changed his perception of his mother’s celebrity status.
“I was surprised, I thought you were just mom not knowing you’re big,” he said.
