Ruggedman Discusses Single Life and Why He Is Still Unmarried at 52

Veteran Nigerian rapper Ruggedman has disclosed that the collapse of a five-year relationship and the demands of his music career played significant roles in why he remains unmarried at 52.

The musician, born Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, made the revelation during a recent radio interview, where he discussed his relationship history, his hopes of becoming a father and his position on marriage.

Ruggedman explained that when he started out in the Nigerian music industry, artists had to depend heavily on their determination and personal efforts to succeed. He said the intensity of the struggle often left little room to concentrate on other important aspects of life.

According to him, the years spent building his career passed quickly, and he did not find a partner who was prepared to navigate the challenges of the entertainment business alongside him.

He contrasted his experience with that of fellow musician 2Baba, whom he described as fortunate to have found partners willing to share his journey.

“I am one of those who got into the industry back in the day where all we had was our hustle and we faced it and before you know it, time was gone,” Ruggedman said.

The rapper revealed that he previously maintained a relationship for five years and genuinely believed it would result in marriage.

However, he said the relationship eventually ended following an incident that he did not disclose, disrupting the future he had envisioned.

“I had a five year relationship that I thought would lead to marriage but something happened and it crashed,” he said.

Ruggedman confirmed that he is currently single, adding that he has not given up on his ambition to get married and raise children.

He also made it clear that having children outside marriage is something he has firmly ruled out for himself.

“The only thing I vowed is that I will never have a child out of wedlock,” he stated.

The rapper dismissed the notion that his age could prevent him from finding a wife, insisting that marriage remains possible at any stage of adulthood.

“No, I don’t think it’s too late. It’s never too late. As long as you are alive, it’s never too late to get married,” he said.

During the interview, Ruggedman was also asked about his sexuality and responded by stating that he is heterosexual.

His disclosure provides a personal perspective on the challenges that can arise when professional commitments, relationship setbacks and family aspirations intersect. Despite the setbacks he described, the rapper remains optimistic about the possibility of marriage in the future.
