Nigerian singer Sexy Steel has alleged that he owned the original beat that eventually became Davido’s “Dami Duro.”
The claim was made in a video as Sexy Steel discussed the instrumental’s history and its connection to one of Davido’s earliest major songs.
Davido has acknowledged that Sexy Steel was connected to the beat’s original creation. Speaking in an Afrobeat documentary, he explained that he initially made the foundation of the instrumental specifically for Sexy Steel.

According to Davido, the beat was created in his Lagos studio in 2011. Producer Shizzy later joined the process, contributing keys and additional production.
Davido said he subsequently decided to record the instrumental himself after recognising its potential.
The decision resulted in “Dami Duro,” which became a major hit and played a central role in his breakthrough in the Nigerian music industry.
Sexy Steel’s recent comments have therefore renewed interest in the circumstances surrounding the song’s creation.
Davido’s explanation confirms that the instrumental had originally been intended for Sexy Steel, while also detailing how he eventually adapted it for his own project.
The song went on to become one of the recognisable Afrobeats hits of the early 2010s and helped establish Davido’s identity in the Nigerian music scene.
