President Bola Tinubu has assented to a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna, in a move expected to strengthen technical education, research and skills development.
The development has attracted commendation from the member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Amos, who praised the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, for sponsoring and pursuing the legislation to its successful passage.
Amos, who chairs the House Committee on House Services, described the transformation of the polytechnic into a university as a historic milestone for Kaduna State and Nigeria’s educational development.
In a statement on Friday, the lawmaker said Abbas had demonstrated purposeful leadership and commitment to education by initiating and pursuing the bill despite his demanding responsibilities as Speaker of the House.
“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.
He noted that the new university would reposition technical and vocational education, expand opportunities for specialised training and promote the development of skilled manpower required to drive economic growth.
Amos also commended Tinubu for granting presidential assent to the legislation, alongside the bill establishing the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, Lagos, both sponsored by the Speaker.

He described the President’s action as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to educational reforms and human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The lawmaker congratulated the people of Kaduna State, as well as the management, staff and students of the former Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, on the institution’s elevation.
He expressed optimism that the new university would expand access to degree programmes, strengthen research and innovation, and improve graduates’ employability through technology-driven and vocationally oriented education.
Amos assured that the House of Representatives would continue to support efforts to ensure the smooth take-off of the institution.
The conversion is expected to create opportunities for expanded academic programmes, increased research activities and stronger links between higher education and industry, particularly in technical and vocational fields.
It is also expected to strengthen Kaduna State’s capacity to produce graduates with practical skills relevant to industrial development and the changing demands of the labour market.
