Toluwanisings’ Family Seeks Burial Postponement, Demands Probe Into Singer’s Death

Toluwanisings’ Family Seeks Burial Postponement, Demands Probe Into Singer’s Death

The burial controversy surrounding late gospel singer Toluwanisings has deepened after members of his father’s family demanded an investigation into his death before his remains are interred.

The singer, whose real name was Olayemi Bolaji, died on October 14, with his passing drawing widespread attention from fans and members of the gospel music community.

A memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, while reports indicated that his burial had been planned for Wednesday.

However, Lawal Rauf, an uncle of the deceased, said the father’s family had agreed to oppose the planned burial until the circumstances of the singer’s death were investigated.

“We don’t want him to be buried on Wednesday as they planned to. Everyone from his father’s family has agreed to this. We want people to help us in doing investigations into his death,” Rauf said.

The family’s demand comes amid an earlier disagreement between the singer’s widow and his father over his final resting place.

His wife reportedly wanted him buried in a cemetery or church-owned burial ground, explaining that she would be uncomfortable living in a house where her husband was buried.

His father, on the other hand, had expressed a preference for burying his son at their family home or in their village, where the singer’s mother was buried.

Rauf said the family now wanted the singer laid to rest at his home in Ibadan, where his wife currently lives.

He also called on the government, Nigerians and religious leaders to support a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The disagreement has created uncertainty around the planned burial and highlighted the competing wishes of the deceased’s relatives.

As fans continue to remember the late gospel minister for his music and ministrations, his family remains divided over the arrangements for his final farewell.

The proposed Wednesday burial faces opposition from the father’s family, and the available report does not indicate whether a final agreement has been reached.
