Armed Forces College of Medicine Gets NUC Approval, Listed on JAMB Portal for 2026/2027

The Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences (AFCOM-HS), Yaba, Lagos, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and has been listed on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The development paves the way for the institution to commence its pioneer admission exercise, with plans to admit its first 100 cadets for medical and health sciences training.
The college is expected to train medical and healthcare personnel for the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen military healthcare capacity.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, welcomed the development, describing the listing as a significant step towards strengthening medical education, healthcare delivery and national security.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the college is designed to integrate professional medical education with military officer development.
The two programmes approved by the NUC for the institution’s take-off are:
Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).
Nursing Science (B.NSc.).
The training programme is expected to equip cadets with clinical competence, professional ethics and leadership skills required to support healthcare delivery within the Armed Forces.
Dr Alausa commended the Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Christopher Musa, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, the Armed Forces leadership, and the technical working group chaired by Brig.-Gen. Dr Idris Babatunde Solebo, alongside the NUC, JAMB and relevant professional regulatory authorities, for their contributions to the establishment of the institution.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to academic oversight, quality assurance and collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies to ensure the institution maintains the required standards.
Prospective applicants are advised to monitor official AFCOM-HS and JAMB communication channels for details of admission requirements, application procedures, military selection processes and screening dates.
The establishment of AFCOM-HS is expected to strengthen the country’s military healthcare system through the training of specialised medical personnel.
Editorial note: JAMB listing does not necessarily mean the admission application or screening exercise has commenced. Candidates should await official admission guidelines before making payments or taking further steps.
