EFCC Offers Informants Up to 5% Reward for Recovering Stolen Assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced financial incentives for individuals who provide credible information leading to the recovery of stolen Nigerian assets held within or outside the country.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede said informants could receive between 2.5% and 5% of the value of recovered assets, depending on the circumstances surrounding the recovery.

Mr Olukoyede made the disclosure while speaking on the commission’s efforts to track and recover assets allegedly stolen from Nigeria and concealed in foreign jurisdictions.

“If you know where a Nigerian asset has been stolen or taken anywhere in the world, we have an incentive for you. Between 2.5% and 5% will go back to you upon recovery,” he said.

The EFCC has in recent years intensified its efforts to trace illicitly acquired assets and return them to Nigeria, working with international partners and law-enforcement agencies in different jurisdictions.

The chairman’s announcement is expected to encourage members of the public and others with credible information about the location of suspected stolen Nigerian assets to come forward.

The commission has repeatedly stressed the importance of intelligence and public cooperation in tracing proceeds of corruption, fraud and other financial crimes.

Mr Olukoyede said the incentive would form part of broader efforts to strengthen asset recovery and ensure that funds and properties allegedly taken from Nigeria are traced and returned to the country.

The EFCC’s asset recovery drive remains a key part of the government’s wider anti-corruption campaign, with recovered funds and properties expected to be returned to public use in accordance with the law.
