NIGERIAN ARMY DEPLOYS NEW BATTALION, ARTILLERY REGIMENT TO BOOST SECURITY IN KANO

The Nigerian Army is strengthening its operational presence in Kano State with the establishment of new military formations, as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, assesses the readiness of 24 Battalion and 311 Artillery Regiment.

The GOC’s operational assessment visit to the two formations in Tudun Wada and Dambatta, respectively, took place from October 28 to 29, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi.

Major General Wase, who is also the Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, charged personnel of the newly established units to demonstrate resilience, commitment and collective responsibility in delivering on their operational mandates.

He assured the troops that the Division was working closely with the Kano State Government to accelerate the attainment of full operational capability by the units. He also identified troop welfare and logistical support as key priorities.

According to the statement, the GOC, accompanied by the Commander 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, also engaged local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada, where he sought the cooperation of host communities in supporting the newly deployed formations.

He urged residents to maintain close collaboration with the military, particularly through community support and timely information sharing, to strengthen security across the state.

The establishment of the 24 Battalion and 311 Artillery Regiment forms part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing expansion and restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening the nation’s security architecture and improving operational responsiveness.

The Army’s move is expected to enhance its operational capacity and strengthen security coverage across Kano State.
