Former Nigerian footballers under the umbrella of the Lagos Legends Club (LLC) have hailed the Chairman of the Lagos Lottery Board, Mr Bashir Are, for facilitating a health insurance package for more than 100 ex-internationals.
The initiative, described as a major relief, is expected to ease the burden of medical expenses for many former players who have struggled to meet hospital bills after retirement.
Convener of the Lagos Legends Club, Engr Waidi Akanni, expressed deep appreciation to Are for what he described as a timely and compassionate intervention. Akanni noted that the medical insurance cover has brought renewed hope and happiness to many members of the club.

According to him, the initiative gives the former footballers the assurance of access to healthcare without the constant fear of how to raise money for medical treatment.
Also speaking, LLC member Monday Kanu described the health insurance package as an unprecedented gesture within the Nigerian football community, commending both Are and Akanni for making the programme possible.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by members of the Lagos Legends Club, with many viewing it as a significant step towards improving the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerian football heroes who once gave their all for the country on the pitch.
For the ex-internationals, the message is clear: their contributions to Nigerian football have not been forgotten.
